There have been several discussions on measuring Specific Gravity. Alan F. mentioned that he had built the equipment to perform the measurement. He did not have a scanner so he sent me his sketches and I scanned them. He included a chart with the density of water. The only edit that I made to his sketches was to add a Degree F to the chart.

I will add the jpgs now. I tried to make a PDF but it is to big, at 4xx k. So I will have to split it up into 2 pdf docs and add it in a day or two. I hope that the jpgs will work for now.

If someone has time they can redo the sketches in a different format. I would like to say that I would do it, but I am not sure when I would get to it.

I cleaned up my ingur account and deleted the images..... sorry

A single pan balance is called a scale.

True, but modern American writers choose to use one word instead of three. :) :)

The balances used to weigh gemstones and measure S.G. are indeed balances.
Scales are used at the grocery to weigh out Bologna and at the scrapyard to weigh scrap metal.

I cleaned up the files and they are small enough to attach. I hope that that way they will not go away.

Ted, I don't think I ever thanked you for the cracking job you did on these notes and sketches. Really good, and, at 66 downloads, quite popular.
