Hi, I am a Sri Lankan presently in Tampa FL on a 1 month visit. Since I am studying presently to sit for Gemologist examination in Colombo Sri Lanka, I am eager to own a "Fiber Optic Light Source" to practice. To gain this instrument at an affordable price I look for a "used" one in very good working condition favorably within next 2 weeks. May I expect guidance for me to accomplish my requirement.

Thank you
Regards
Piyasoma

You can find fiber optic illuminators made in china for just under three hundred dollars (at least here) They may be availble for less closer to china. You need to make sure whatever you buy will operate on your local voltage which I imagine is 220v 50hz.

I never thought I would here myself say this but you might be better off seeing if you can find and LED illuminator if you can find one with High Color Rendition Index. They are quite availble at the lower color temps ("warm white" ) that a quartz halogen lamp puts out. But you have to buy very carefully. But they are getting better every day.

They have the advantage of using less power and are much cooler. They are probably cheaper too. But many of them have bluish or greenish light. You have to make sure they have tested and make a claim of a color rendition index above abot 93.

Or, employ a color filter.
