Hey, so I recently took a gemology course at my University and I loved it so I decided that I wanted to collect/invest in gems. My first one I bought was a nice bit of Zultanite. However I am wondering how do I even go about starting to get information on what gems are the new up and coming popularity before the rest of the population or where do I even start to do research on which gems to collect/invest. For the collection part, I quite honestly and probably only going to collect whichever gems I think are cool/fascinating/interesting to me. But all other information I am absolutely lost. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, this is a long long way....

My advice is to collect ( and not "invest") what you really like.

Visit gem shows - compare prices....and qualities.

Garnets are a good start for a collection imo - many different colors, untreated ( except some demantoid from russia but this is o.k.) and still cheap enough ( most of them).

Avoid overpriced vendors and investment blabla. There is no reason for example to pay 550 Dollar for a 0,20 ct Montana sapphire in ice blue - you get this for 40-60 Dollar or cheaper.

Just as a sidebar, the GemologyProject.com has a lot of info on gems.
Zultanite is a trade name for Turkish diaspore with a color change.
