I saw that there were some examples of hauyn in our classified described as possibly stabilized with resin.
Does anyone have specifics on that?
What sort of resin?
Identification of stabilization?

Hi

they use a loctite product that is induced in a vacuum. Since in the recent years not much Hauyn has been found, many of the stones get this stabilize treatment.
Resin should show under uv light, no flashes seen under the microscope.
So I would suspect any cut stone in the last few years to be a candidate that had that vacuum bath.

Many stones are showing up clarity enhanced using resins and stuff like Opticon being done. There are extremely simple methods that work flawlessly and can be done by ANYONE with a heat source and a jar and the resin of choice, lol. :x One can find just about ANY material treated this way from many of the Thai sellers on Ebay and even many from TV shows as well.

Hi
with the Hauyn the goal is different, it's stabilizing the material before cutting!
As far as I know there is no heat involved in this particular process .
The reason for doing this stabilizing is the problems associated with cutting Hauyn.

With resin stabilization there is typically low heat involved, very low, but still involved to make the resin thin out and run more easily so it can penetrate the fractures, fissures, and such more readily. But maybe the method of this material is different from the rest, I truly do not know.

Thx for the info Tim. :). That must have been one expensive chamber to build though, lol, but then again, the material is well worth the effort!
