A few days ago I found this pendant in a flee market and bought it to try and identify it. But I haven't had any luck at all so far.
Refractometer says: 1.78
It is single refractive.
It is green through chelseafilter and has a few lines in a darker orangy/brown colour in one part. It is virtually colourless otherwise. No inclusions at all under 10x, only a few scratches. It is more than 20 years old and is "definitely not glass" according to the man who sold it to me. He had no idea what it was.
At first I thought it was YAG, but I guess it couldn't be. Maybe some variation of garnet? Maybe synthetic something?
I am a complete beginner by the way, so any advise on where to go from here would be much apreciated
I have succesfully identified a lot of other stones, so my instruments should be accurate enough.

Hi there and welcome,
try the following: put a big drop of your RI liquid on the hemicylinder, close the lid and check the RI of the fluid...
is it that same 1.78?
If so... your stone has an 'over the limit' (OTL) RI and you need to get into it deeper via the Hodgkinson Method, hanneman's refractometer or the duChaulnes method (use the google search function in the top left corner to find more info on these three methods.
If you find out your RI liquid has a higher RI than that 1,78 you have a few options but's let see what the liquid's RI is first.
