First a big thank you to Barbra for creating this new section.
As you all know a few of us here have created the gemology project as a means to gather as much information as possible on gemology and gemstones.
Our idea was to create a central spot to bundle all our knowledge (practical and theory) and to publish that to the public at no cost.
Although the project is by no means complete yet (nor will it ever be), we were brave (read scared) enough to publish it early this year.
As with any new project, we need a platform and we could have created a seperate forum on the project's webpage, but why mess with perfection. Barbra is one of the founding members of the project and she has the best gemological forum on the internet, so it was not very hard to do the math.
This section on the forum is intended for critics, suggestions, sollicitations etc to help the gemology project grow and to lift it to higher grounds.
So please if you have something to say, curse or to contribute, please go ahead and do it here. Only time will tell if you can say "I was there" with pride.
For people who already have an account to the project it might be better to open a discussion on the appropiate pages.
When you post a critic, be assured that you will hurt our feelings, but so be it. Although we do our best to make no mistakes, we do make plenty and if you don't point them out to us, we will never know better. So please go ahead and say we are wrong when we are, we will thank you after the public spanking.
FInally I must say something about what we are not trying to be. We are not trying to be an online course in gemology. You can not learn gemology from the internet alone.
We are just trying to be a central repository for gemological data and a reference site.
If you are new to gemology, you might find some information very useful but you can learn bad habits aswell. When you want to become a gemologist, please study with some of the schools outlined in becoming a gemologist. They are much better at training you than we will ever be.
Kind regards,
Doos
(Director General, President and Recovering Idiot of The Gemology Project) .. now I made myself laugh
I hope I am not out of line posting a suggestion, but for idiots like me
a glossary link on the home page or table of contents page would be very helpful. I love the site and look up information there often.
Sorry I was not more clear. I am looking for a place to click on to get to the Glossary from the table of contents page, or any where else. I can't seem to find one.
