It's very hard to tell much from this photo (or any photo). Based on what's seen here I would not have guessed they were emeralds--they look essentially green-black. I don't think I've ever seen a beryl that dark. Have you confirmed that they are indeed beryl? The termination looks kind of unusual for beryl, too.

I still doubt these are emeralds. I have seen pseudohexagonal growth in Tourmalines (Vincent Pardieu posted a good example from Burma a few years back) And there are a few other candidates in the kingdom of minerals that would fit.
Take your stone to a local gemologist or a museum and get it identified.

knowing whether the emeralds are good or bad is confusing.they say emeralds even the best of emeralds have inclusions.does that mean color is most important in them.its very difficult choosing stones for cutting.some crack easily while cutting.but the dark green ones which have good crystal shapes are good cutting material and do not crack.which is the better color the dark green or the bright green ones.clarity is more in dark green.
i do not understand why u think dark green ones are not emeralds, dark green emeralds are the ones usually seen on antique jewellery and its all tested and they are indeed emeralds.most of the old emeralds are usually of the darker green.the pictures show them a little too dark.thankx for the answers.
does not look like one, looks like something with a lower hardness.i am aware of other gemstones which resemble beryls, infact the apatites we get here are very much shaped like the beryls.chrome diopsides we have here also are another gem which resemble emeralds.green flourite also resembles emeralds.we get aquas here so i am very much familiar with beryls.i have not cut one of the dark greens but i will cut one.i am adding the pic again does the crystal above resemble this one even in the pic.
