Thoughts on the color? How do these dichroic stones look once faceted? Will the secondary color show into the face up color?
Pictures of known Sapphire crystals
Gemmie, I believe some time should be spent making certain they are corundum. The 'finish' on your roughs does not encourage me to believe they are as they were sold. Not speaking critically of what you have there, just saying a more thorough check is a good practice.
My other post hasn't shown up, so adding to that... Yes, I'll have it tested prior to spending money on cutting, but I'm fairly certain the rough dealer knows what he has. The bigger question in my mind is whether or not it's been treated. I'll post the result when I get them.
So back to my question.. Will a secondary color show up in the face up color?

It's strange... for I was thinking the same thing!

Yes. The amount of each color that shows up will depend on the style of cutting, where the axis perpendicular to the table is located, (meaning how the stone is oriented), as well as how the stone is tilted and where the light sources are located when viewing the stone. No stone will look exactly like any single picture of it from all viewing directions and in all lighting environments, so one must accept a range of "looks" to any stone and particularly these dichroic stones. As for it being sapphire...well I've seen lots of Australian material which looks like that, though a couple of tests never hurt. If you've got a cutter in mind, then I would suggest having them do some tests to make sure that you're dealing with sapphire.
