This is a cabochon I cut from Zambian material I got at Tucson this year:

It shows off the color zoning very nicely. When rotated in front of a laptop monitor that center zone goes between violet-purple and pure blue. I honestly wonder if these fine amethysts have zones that are a natural equivalent to the treated sapphira quartz from Brazil.

Have a look at this African rough.
The photos dont do it justice (it looked much better on my phone when I took it). It had slightly more red colour component than the photos show.

I want to buy this but dont have enough money now. Hopefully it will still be with the dealer when I can buy it.
