I can't find any info. on "vessonite" garnet. There are some trade show dealers and eBay sellers calling them "vessonite" or "vesonite" garnet. I suspect this is a made up name or misnomer. I believe these stones are mis-labeled and are actually vesuvianite/idocrase. Any info. is greatly appreciated.

In one of the sellers' ads, it is stated that this material is also known as idocrase. Guess that's your answer :) . Don't know why anyone would rename an already known gem, though 8) .

There's Hessonite garnet, one of the many colors of the grossular garnet species. It's the brownish-orange variety traditionally known as "cinnamon stone."

White grossular garnet is also found mixed with idocrase at several northern California locations. As Sinkankas wrote, "The problem in examining any Californite [idocrase/vesuvianite] is to distinguish which part of the mixture is true idocrase and which part is white grossularite."

I have a hunch someone split the difference by marketing some of the material as "vesonite." Just a guess.
