I received these back from cutting a few weeks ago and thought I would post some pictures. Ended up with close to a 50% yield. 9 pieces in all and a total of approx 150 carats.

Those stones are beautiful, Sam. I only wish more rough was available. I've tried cutting some of the Peruvian material and while it's pretty in its own fashion it's simply no match for the fine old-time Arizona cupric chalcedonies.
I recently cut this stone from a small slab I bought several years ago. I think it's one of the prettiest stones I've ever run across. It's a melange of native copper, a whitish metal as yet unidentified, chrysocolla, azurite, possibly turquoise and chalcedony. I'd left it uncut for a long time, fearing undercutting, but when I took it to the wheel it yielded an absolutely glittering unpitted finish.
Does anyone recognize it as a named material or is it merely another in the many beautiful unnamed copper mineral mixes?

After I saw you original post and pics about the gem silica I had to get some for myself. I thought the color was fantastic. I purchased some the next month. I might have posted this on here before but I don't remember...It's gem silica from the Inspiration mine in Arizona..this piece was mined back in the 70's and I got it from an old collection. ROM thaqt stone is fantastic..ohhh ahhh
Rough
Finished free form cabs..although not nearly as high a quality as your material still nice non the less.

Hi Rick, That is a beautiful stone! Thanks for posting it. I wish I could find some more rough also. Maybe we’ll have some in the future. There is a large copper mining project (still in early stages) just east of Superior http://www.resolutioncopper.com/res/whoweare/1.html that may yield some rough in 10 years or so.
Hi Amethystguy, those look great! I like the drusy quartz on the one to the right. Thanks for posting those pics

Yep, Daniela L'Abbate has done some absolutely magnificent work in the past.
This was who I was referring to in the other thread for "what would be your first stone" when I mentioned opal carving. It's a shame she hasn't a gallery of past work.
