Here's a site with some pics of very big rough aquas:

http://www.easystones.com/20.5.htm

http://www.easystones.com/4.6kg%20aqua.htm

http://www.easystones.com/522.htm

no idea what I'd do with them, even if I could afford them!

asking 1.5 million and getting them are two different things.

that stone is worth whatever some collector or museum is willing to pay.
it´s virtually unsellable but probably good to make headlines and promote the owner´s other (sellable) gems

I'll go 1.49 million and not a penny more. Oh wait, that's right. I blew my load on a $60 spinel this weekend. Maybe next weekend?

It is 2,226.5 carats. The stone looks very light blue but since they took the pic with the flash it might actually be a little darker.

:D hey, jgold99'er,

are you talking about the stone you shared with us in your original post weighs a whopping 2,226.5ct? i would love to know the mm, or well, the measurements in inches of the aquamarine!

There have been some truly enormous aquamarine crystals found.

Yes, this gem-grade crystal mined in the 1950's weighed 56 pounds. Others that size and larger have been found.

Then there is, of course, this aqua, which I believe couldn't be cut because there wasn't enough dopping wax in the world. :D

I don't think dopping wax would work. I think you would have to cold dop it.
