Up until 15 years ago this kind of stone was still here in Minas Gerais. Paper weights went out of fashion and they don't cut above pendant size even if the rough permits it now a days.Dealers used to ask +- $50 @ ct. and after a while sell it to the highest bidder.

I have quite a large Aquamarine pendant. Stone measures 24mm wide by 16mm long and about 9mm deep. It's a rather flat stone, purchased by my aunt in the 1930's and set in my grandfather's watch fab. It's a spinner so that's probaby why it's so flat. I would post a pic, but haven't figured out how yet. The stone has been tested and is an excellent grade, but it is extremely light in color. You can see you hand right through the center of the stone. So my question is does the lightness in color make the stone less valuable? I just don't have a lot of knowledge about this stone since I don't deal in them very often. Thanks

Barbara, You almost scared me away with your response to another post I made. I though I was really in the wrong place. But I guess it was just the way I worded it or something. In this message I couldn't find a page of instructions, but it's probably like my sculpting forum where you have to size the picture down and sent it using the URL. It think it was copy & past, but it's been a long time and I am using a brand new computer that I not used to yet. I could really get a good pic of it, but I will try.

Hi Bonnie.
We try to be helpful around here, but it would be irresponsible to estimate the price of something no one has seen.
Even with a photo, it is blind speculation to attempt to identify, let alone value.

I understand what you mean now. I guess what I really meant was how much does color hue factor into the value. But it really doesn't matter with this pendant because I don't see it ever being sold. I took a few pictures. The first one is against a white background and somehow makes the stone look cloudy. So the second picture show how you can see the actual texture of the cloth it is on. It's a very clear pale blue stone.
