Okay, gang ... I'm having a debate with myself and figure I could use some more input. I have some diamond jewelry I haven't worn for years (I don't care for yellow gold). Here's a scanned photo of the items:

Image

I had these items appraised back in Sept. 1993 (the stones were not removed for appraisal). The ring on the left contains a diamond described as:

Round brilliant
4.6mm approx diameter
0.38ct by formula
Strong-Chalky blue fluorescence
63% depth - estimated
61% table diameter 2.8mm
Slightly thick girdle
No culet
Good finish
87% cutting grade
H-I color
IF clarity grade apparently

The earrings each contain diamonds described as:

Round brilliants
Approx. 3.5 and 3.6mm
0.016 and 0.017 carats
G to H color
VS2 and SI2 color

Now, my quandary :? -- whether it would be better to remove the diamonds from their settings, send the larger one off to GIA for a new report, then try to sell the stones individually, or, keep the diamonds in place, have the jewelry re-appraised, then try to sell the set as is. Any and all opinions would be helpful in my struggle. Thanks!

How would you go about selling them?
I don't think you're talking much money here (sorry) unless you can find a private who loves the design.
That's possible. We're doing well with florals currently.
Getting a 0.38 ct. diamond with strong fluorescence graded by GIA would be rather eccenric in my opinion.

If the pieces were mine, I'd probably give the earrings to a younger family member as a holiday gift and pop out the 0.38ct to use as an accent in a ring or pendant with a larger colored stone.
You might want to do that with all 3 diamonds and just sell the gold for scrap. OR!! Replace the diamonds with some colored stones and then give the whole set as a holiday gift. :D

Yes, I've thought of taking the diamonds out and using them in something else :-k . My mother gave me a vintage ring that someone cut the diamonds out of ... I could have that refashioned.

Can't think of any younger relatives I care enough for to give diamonds to them. I'll have a daughter-in-law soon who might need some jewelry. I could replace the diamonds with her birthstone -- sapphires.

Hmmm ... think I'll go get some lunch and do some more thinking. Thanks, Barbra :D .
