Not sure about a chat, though... if there's anything left to say, even!
Great quote from my almamater's web site; lies, lies, lies, all applicable to the color grading of diamonds and the latest issue of G&G regarding fluorescence and GIA's rewriting of the history about UV containing grading lights. Now we HAVE to have UV, according to the self-proclaimed, "world's foremost authority(TM)", so the color grade of 30-40% of the world's diamonds can be "improved". Somehow, the 50 year pronouncements that "diamonds should be graded at their poorer color in artificial light devoid of ultra-violet" have now been twisted to mean that we(GIA) really didn't mean what we were saying. Lies, Lies, Lies.

Valeria I did not realize that the Bard was a gemologist, but I am certainly happy to hear it.
Of course the original and definitive definitive statement on this topic is located here! and here!
The Accredited Gemologists Association is now calling for standards on the lighting environment for color grading diamonds. The charge is being led by the great Antoinette Bonanno Mattlins. At their meetings in Tucson , this year and last, the AGA has addressed this topic.
The interesting thing about the presentations is that they were written by a Certified Public Accountant. So he was rigorously and abstemiously observant of the traceability and the correctness of the facts. He cited every statement he made with where the reference came from. Two very impressive talks, by a guy who is NOT a gemologist. His name is Stan Hogrebe and he is President of Dazor Lighting. The AGA has made all the files public here
Since GIA is no longer making the DiamondLite , once the standard, and they have recalled the DiamondDock , which is not shown on the Gem Instruments website as of today, (but see Here) others are stepping up to the plate to build Diamond Grading environments. Stay tuned.
