Here for you who are looking for a good light source to the refractometer and polariscope in one piece.

"but the top lens has a hairline crack on one edge but is not loose"

Will this effect the readings in a refractometer or would it just be a cosmetic issue.

If it needs to be fixed, how much do you think it would cost to replace?

The top light is not used for refractometer readings so no problem there. Replacement would be a white frosted glass disc. The "yellow filter" used for the refractometer readings is of more importance.

Great, Thanks.

So I could leave that lense cracked and still get accurate readings.

The top lens is not important. What is important is the orange lens which sounds like its OK. I would not pay more than about $50.00 for one of these. It is essentially a Christmas tree light with three filters only one of which is worth any money. The orange interference filter. They can be bought these days on ebay for $20 or $30 .
