 I thought it was 70+ cts, not 18. So I'll pose the question about the kunzites. Door knocker earrings, anyone?
If you love gemstones, does size really matter, that is from a collectors stand point, that has many unmounted stones?
People have wore ear rings out of stones this size, though I would not recommend it for every day,LOL!. Perhaps a unique doubled stone pendant? His & her rings? At any rate, what I thought was great about the Kunzites, is that their from California, where Kunzite was first found. Their a very good color for Kunzite that is not treated in anyway, other than cutting & polishing. Rare for the species.

Oh, Elvis, I hope you know I meant no criticism - I love the color and would take two matching kunzites like that any day of the week if someone offered them to me...I just wouldn't make earrings of them!

I went down to Iowa City last night. It was my grandson's first birthday, but before we stopped at the party, we went to Hands Jeweler, who always has a remarkable collection of colored stones! The owner being a big time Gem Collector, one time he brought out trays & trays of fine Brazilian Rubellite! RED! Medium light in color to medium.
Well to continue my story, I never thought I'd seen one in person, unless I went to Tiffanys, or it's ilk, in a store. The owner's son locked up the doors, as it was closing time, & took me back to his vault. He said, "I think your really going to like what I got to show you!" So, my wife & I went with him, & he pulled out this most neon bluish-green stone I've ever seen! I look up at him immediately, & said, "that's a Paraiba!" He smiled & looked me & said, "yes! It's a Brazilian stone!" WOW! Now I know what they mean by "NEON!" In my collection, there is only two stones that might come close to matching it's vividness, my 7.32 Orange Spessartite, & my 3.02, Mahenge Spinel, maybe? The Spinel would definitely come the closest. The Paraiba was an oval over two cts!
I never thought in my life I'd see one, let alone in a store in Iowa City, IA. It was their first one.
I'm going to e-mail them, & see if I can get a picture! What a stone! I'm totally knocked out!

Great story, thanks for sharing Elvis! I love Paraiba, I am lucky enough to have a very small piece I purchased back in 1990(89?) it is a cab .33ct but it still has that color and that neon glow . I wish it was faceted , but I am not willing to lose any more size

LOL MoDo, don't stress woman. I was speaking from my point of view, I'm not normally a true heart shape lover ( I prefer the flat top). But... as far as bumpy top hearts go I really like that one in that colour. To my eye it just suits. Now yes, the top looks like it could do with a little face lift, it looks like too much Botox was added one side.

william it's stone(s) of the day not bargain of the day. It's what gives a person the ooh to their minds eye and oh boy, price? That's like asking a woman her age! Price is whatever it's worth to the creator and ultimately the buyer.

Not a common color for this gem, a negative. The asking price is much too high, in my opinion.
Well Bill, the price is well under $4000.00 a carat. For a Tsavorite of this quality & cut (AGTA award winning) the price at a high end boutique could be $8000.00-$12000 a carat mounted, & that may be conservative? It comes from one of the most award winning cutters in the industry, John Dyer, that in it's self is a premium to collectors.
Though a picture does not always capture the true color to the eye, this stone looks to have a blue tint to it, very desirable, & rare in this size. How many 11 cts Tsavorites like this do you run in to?
