Hi all,

Vincent will host a chat with us on Sunday, January 15th at 10AM Bangkok time.
ImageImage
He needs little introduction as most of us are familiar with his enthusiastic posts and love for our trade.
He is the director of the gemlab at AIGS. This shooting star will be a name to remember and we were there to gotten to meet him in cyberspace.
And for someone who thinks his English is not good enough to write a book, he writes some great articles on various advanced gemmological topics.

The time was chosen so most people should be able to attend (that will be Saturday evening in the USA and Sunday afternoon in Australia).

Hi Doos,

Hum, your link to my personal website is not correct:
My website is http://www.fieldgemology.org

Anyway I will be very happy to chat with all of you next week and I thanks Doos for all his work he does for all of us.

I confirm that I will give in Tucson a presentation along with Richard Hughes on Burma and Madagascar on feb 2 at AGTA. It was very nice to Richard to invite me to join his presentation. We had a great trip together to Ilakaka and Andilamena in Madagascar last september. I will be very glad to meet you there...

About Madagascar, I'm currently pblishing a series of 3 articles in Colored Stone magazine about this wonderful gem island in collaboration with Richard Wise. Richard told me already that the first article is printed and I hope that you will have some pleasure reading it.

For the French guys around here, I also signed an other article about tsavorite for the "Revue de gemmologie A.F.G" this month which is also a consequence of the 4 month fieldtrip I had with some of my former students from AIGS Bangkok in Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Kenya and Tanzania. I will probably also be present in Paris for a presentation about East African gemstones in March for the French Gemological Association.

Well that's for the close future, I hope that we will have some good time next week end!

All the best,

Wow is the best word to describe what happened last night/morning/afternoon.

Vincent hosted a 3.5 hour marathon chat with us that was worth staying up for every minute.
He discussed Corundum, Zircon, inclusions, treatments, Madagascar and other localities, wine and even plastic churgery in a fun and easy to follow format.
Not only were we all in awe by his knowledge, he also gave us some wonderful new insights on various topics.

We all knew he was a great guy, but now he convinced us that he is a natural teacher and just plain one of the nicest people to talk to.

If you get to Tucson, don't forget to attend the lecture that he will be holding with Richard Hughes. You won't regret it.

The log is posted at http://yey.be/chatlogs/Pardieu.cgi .
It's very long, but every word is worth reading.

Well done Vincent, I take my hat of for you.

this was an excellent chat - really enjoyed it.

It would have been worth staying up for but luckily the time difference was kind to me and it was a very pleasant way to spend my Sunday afternoon.

thanks especially to Vincent and also to everyone else who participated.

cheers

Hi Vincent,

Just want to say Thank you for all the wonderful information you taught us – I have learned so much and we are indeed very privileged to have you here. I wish we could go on a fieldtrip with you.

Everyone please read the chat, this was a remarkable chat with a true living legend - I was taken by every word and enjoyed every minute of it, and I didn't have to get up in the middle of the night. It was a very pleasant Sunday afternoon for me for a change, and poor Doos & Frank stayed up all night out of worthy excitement …...

Hugs & Cheers, Annie :P

Slept right through my alarm

Judging from the transcipt this was a really great chat, and WOW Vincent, 4 hours!

The good thing is that Vincent comes from wine country so I would guess that what kind to send him was maybe a foregone conclusion.

The bad thing is that nobody even mentioned Namya spinels. Probably serves me right for sleeping through it though.

Exceptional chat. Vincent is so forthcoming and cordial. A true "Gemtleman."

And what a potential Madagascar holds for future gem production.

The chat was the most informative one I've managed to attend. My hat's off to Vincent, not only for his seemingly boundless knowledge, but also for his ability to type so fast! The information just kept popping up in an endless stream, almost as fast as I was reading it. And thanks to all for the great questions. I was surprised it went on so long, but every minute was worth staying up for. Kudos, and thanks again, Vincent, and to all who had a hand in putting it together. :D
