My question is: How did a artificial product like composite ruby make it nearly 7 years into production and world wide distribution of millions of carats before the industry really started to question the makers label of "ruby" for this material?

It is interesting to me that some think that AGL's reputation is declining. Chris Smith who is now the owner, has a very unique and valuable set of skills with a background working in the lab at GIA, then as Director of the Gubelin Lab in Switzerland and now head of AGL.
