Hi,
I am considering buying a pendant with a nice aqua. It measures app. 13x10.3x10 mm (8-10ct). The setting is 18ct yellow gold. see picture.

How much do you think I should offer?

Thanks for the help

/Morten

Try a 5 dollar opener--make 'em sweat.

Seriously, though, we can't appraise something for you over the internet, especially not just from a photo. It's certainly a nice color for an aqua if it is indeed an aqua, quite a desirable stone. On the other hand, I'm personally not sold on the setting at all.

Hi Stephen,

I understand :)

I dont like the setting either :) will have that changed or modified by my local goldsmith.

The pendandt is sold by a reputable dealer with guarantee that it is an aqua. I will obviously verify it. I understand you cannot say what this gem is worth, but lets say it is eye-clean and is an aqua, what would such an aqua sell for? 300 usd?

The problem with colored stones is that there is no set price for them. My problem with this stone is that I can't by eye distinguish it from glass. It doesn't reach out and grab me (which some stones certainly do.) As a result I would not bid on it. However, if you look up similar stones on ebay, I imagine they would go for more than $300.

Perhaps, morten, you overlooked this when you posted:

Come on, spend $300 and bring it to a professional who can determine value for you in a defined market.

You are not going to get an 8ct. Aqua that color for 300 bucks. If you do it's probably going to be London blue topaz or glass. I have an 8ct. dark and they are not cheap.

My feeling too, Nicky. Synthetic blue spinel could be a possibility too.
