Synthetic Diamond Detection & Jewelry Appraisers

Scope of Work Declaration

You should seriously think about adding this within your Scope of Work for each assignment

***Detection and/or Identification of Synthetic Diamonds loose and/or mounted is outside the purview and the defined scope of work of the Retail Gemological Appraiser for this assignment.***

It should be italicized and either Highlighted in a Highly visible color (Yellow) or printed in Red BOLD letters

You should also add a new part within your terms, conditions, assumptions and limitations

Topic Header – Synthetic Diamonds:

It should also be clearly listed within your Table of Contents as a Topic Header as well

It would also be a good idea to also list this important caveat within your Appraisal Take-In Work Assignment Agreement form if you use one.

It would also be BEST to also verbally tell and convey this important information personally to the client before the assignment so they clearly know and understand this important caveat.

Due to the complexity involved to test and accurately and definitively detect Synthetic Diamonds, loose and/or mounted, beyond reasonable doubt, is beyond the realm and capabilities of the Retail Gemological Appraiser’s equipment and capabilities.

Positively Detecting and/or Identifying Synthetic Diamonds loose and/or mounted is completely outside the realm and Scope of Work of any Retail Gemological Appraiser’s regular appraising duties due to the Highly Specialized, sophisticated and costly test equipment required to run such tests and also the additional specialized training and education to use such equipment and to correctly understand, interpret and read the various test results to come to a definitive conclusion

I posted this here because I saw a recent discussion on the NAJA Email Form and I have yet to learn how to post and I have been way too busy frying other BIG FISH in other Special Projects and in My Personal Life LOL

The problem that I see with the current state of diamond gizmos is that they are not determinative. The information they give you is inconclusive at best.
When an instrument is made which will definitely and reliably identify synthetics in MY lab without needing further testing, I'll buy one.

Mikko, Alberto? How close are we?
