I found some scales in my work place that I want to use when I appraise off-site. They are probably pretty old, but they seem to work great. It is called DIAGEM II. I want to calibrate it. There is a CAL key, but I can't figure out how it works. I searched on line for a manual with no luck. Does anyone know how to calibrate these scales? Any help would be appreciated!

Do you have any calibration weights?
This will tell you how "off" your scale is and allow you to calibrate.

If you don't perhaps you can borrow some from a colleague as they can be expensive.

It came with a 5 gram calibration weight. I can see that it is off by about 4/100 of a gram, but I want to use it for carat weights.

Why don't you try turning the scale on, putting on the weight and then press the CAL button.

Well, of course, I have done that, but the scale just blinks 5.000 (which is the weight of calibration weight). But it just sits there and blinks and blinks. Then when I shut it down and re-weigh the thing, it still is not weighing properly.

Also, carat weight is just gram weight multiplied by 5.

0.04 grams translates to 0.20 carat. That is significant.

Have you tried this joette?

Step 1
Turn the digital scale on and wait for roughly 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Step 2
Locate the calibration button on your digital scale: CAL

Step 3
Press and hold the calibration button until the screen on your digital scale changes. It will most likely first change to "0," "000" or "CAL." Continue holding the button until the scale goes into calibration mode. You will know this has occurred when the screen reads "CAL" followed immediately by a number. The screen may also simply display a number.

Step 4
Place the calibration weight onto the scale.

Step 5
Allow the weight to rest on the scale for roughly 3 to 5 seconds.

Step 6
Press and hold the calibration button. Your screen will either change to "CAL," "0" or "END." Once this has occurred, turn your scale off. Let it rest for 30 seconds and then turn it back on.
Fingers crossed....your scale should be calibrated.
