Hello all, I was hoping someone could help me identify the marking inside the shank of this ring. Not the 18ct, that one I got! Lol. It almost looks like it wasn’t stamped in square or something, like part is missing.
I’m currently looking into books on hallmarks and makers marks to expand my knowledge. I’ve got a comprehensive file on Canadian marks, but getting European or anything Ive still a long way to go learning!
I appreciate any help!
Thanks!

The piece looks rather contemporary, although the diamond looks like an OE, cut in the early 20th century. It was most probably reset. 18CT is a mark that is put on by a seller or manufacturer. It is not a hallmark.
What is the white metal?
Could you take a focused picture of all the marks within the ring?
I thought that the styling was pretty contemporary too, customer said that it was a grandmothers engagement ring, married 1925. I’ve attached another photo of the mark, best I could get, I’ll see if I can get something better with something other than my phone too. Definitely an OE diamond.

All the info you can give me helps. Grandmother's engagement ring? 1925? Nope. Engagement rings weren't in vogue until WWII. Where was this grandmother living? Country of origin. Might help sort out the J stamp.
Can you make out what is in front of the J stamp? I can't from the pcture.
I suspect the diamond may have been given to her in the 20's but the ring was made later.
Hmmm, it’s always so hard to say much, things passed down through generations seem to get skewed over years. It looked like an A before the J to me, but there is wear or what looks like it was stamped deeper on one end than the other by a significant amount. The only information outside of that the client gave me was that it was she was in Europe.
