Need help from our board members with experience in appraising exotic gems.

I know that Hauynes are, due to their softness, not really suitable for comercial use in jewelry. So as far as I understand it, the demand for the gem is only one by gem collectors.

Is there a listed price for Hauyne at all?

The reason I ask is that there is a parcel of cut Hauynes around, range is 1 - 4 cts each and they are pretty clean.

Before I jump into that pond I need to know if the material is sellable, in the states for example.

Thanks for your opinions,

Nikolaus

Contact Pala International and describe the parcel.

Hi Nikolaus

wow 4ct is top of the line, a whole parcel with big stones now that would my alarm bells go off and at the same time my hopes as well.
Just make for sure they are Hauyns!!! Then as Tim mentioned check for the treatments. About value a good clean 4ct stone is as rare as hens teeth.
Value if good color and clarity it will hit the 5figures easy.
So Nik from the green to the blues

A true rarity, but if their for real, & the price is right, then yes, go for it!

There are several dealers that have Hauyne, but as Jason said, http://www.palagems.com will have some of the best, you can compare their prices.

Top Hauynes can run $2000-3000 per carat just for stones under two carats wholesale!

Thanks for the input everyone. I have to say that my respect for that deal has grown post for post, didn´t know that the Hauynes are priced that high.

These are BIG steps for a small mountain dwarf.

Now its time for me to light some incense sticks and wait for the decision of the person that holds the parcel. Could take a few weeks, but as soon as I have news I will post it here.

I love the eelectric blue stones, but the tiny find of aqua-teal blue stones from Afghanistan are stunning as well.

I put my finger in the air and call: here, here, here ....

Hauyne have to be stabilized before cutting but more than 1ct is also really very rare, 4ct would be top.
But at bargain offered I would be careful....
Maybe there is more stabilized than genuine, something like the glass-filled rubies? Sorry for such a thought ....

My husband assorted a lot of German rough but not so big one for to cut more than 1cts.

A market for faceted Hauyne is worldwide.
I'm looking for one or two stones 1-2ct too; privately as a collector, not for business.
If anyone knows somebody or has some, please do not hesitate to contact me.

The given links for sure I will have a look on.

Edit: just saw that 2 new postings Sep 04 for cutted stones and rough stones before Stephen posting were canceled - than I saw the date of the thread: 2010 - sorry

Hauyne. As for glass filled and dyed or synthetic, may be i don't know if what i have, i would like experts to comment on this Afghani stone as i had bought it for purely study purpose.
This stone has tested SG of 2.50. Isotropic(SR).
This stone has aqua teal blue color in person but as in photos taken direct under sunlight color does look faded and not as natural colors, again sorry for that,

Hauyune is red under a chelsea, and I believe afghanite is not. Perhaps one of the elusive uses for this instrument/toy?

Thank you Stephen,
As i'm afraid i don't have any chelsea filters, i wanted to get one for jadeite though but i dropped the idea, here is another sort of comprehensive photo might help in authenticating this gemstone,
and another normal size photo of this gemstone, looks somehow close to its natural color,
