In many cases, I've had more accurate results using the standard weight estimation formulas. I played with a handfull of various stones last year that were loose and checked them against the dendritics site and the simple old formulas.

I'd recommend trying both. Do note, that the weights you get are just approximations! They are NOT precise. Usually one can get within 10%, with a little practice...
There's also a great book out called The Complete Handbook for Gemstone Weight Estimation by Charles I. Carmona, G.G. that I find very helpful. The ISBN is 0966637003.

This work is just about a MUST HAVE for anyone doing weight estimation on a regular basis. "Guessing" will get you into a world of trouble and there is no substitute for accuracy in weight estimation.

I've been using Gemology Tools Professional for weight estimation.
It's very accurate. And you can do diamonds as well as hundreds of other gems.
It is not available thru the bookshop, but I have a link directly to the maker of the software on my book shop's page:
http://gemologyonline.com/books.html If you haven't checked this program out, you should. For awhile they were offering a free trial download. I don't know if that is still in effect....but you could ask.
