Hi everyone

My Amscope LED lighting has died and they do not sell replacement parts. Does anyone have any ideas for adding on some substage lighting? It seems ridiculous to have to buy a whole new scope...

Any help would be appreciated.

LEDs aren't too hard to replace. If you can solder you can replace the LED entorely. I put a Cree XML2 neutral white LED into my own scope, using a buckblock controller, standard dimmer knob and an old 12v power supply. Which amscope do you have?

Hi Stephen

Thank you for your advice.

It is about ten years old and similar to this one
CL-GM400T-LED

I am not too technically savvy so don't really understand what you mean. I think soldering is possible - can I just solder in a bulb?

It might be possible to just replace the led if you find one of matching voltage (and if that is whst has gone bad of course) --it kind of depends on how available the specs are. Failing that replacing all the electronics (like I did on my Gemolite VII viewtopic.php?f=11&t=26390 ) is surprisingly cheap and not that difficult.

On a similar note, does anyone use one of those ring lights that attach above the stage and if so, what do you like about them?

For lighting from above? They're very good for attractively illuminating some gems for wide shots, but not great for looking at inclusions.
