This is the best thing I have seen for color matching. It would be really good for diamond grading and colored stone grading matching. The only good, repeatable, no excuses, indoor, source of daylight.

I don't think I would pay $1,000 for one but at about $300 it would be a pretty good deal.
The lamps can be bought all day for $150 and come up for $50 or $75 on ebay often. They last a long time.

This was specially developed by Bulbtronics a bulb supplier at the request of some industrial customer that had to compare samples of textiles or plastics or something.
The seller of this unit appears to be a plastics company perhaps a molder.

If someone buys it make sure to have a clear lexan lens to absorb UV which the xenon lamp produces or if you want the UV to simulate outdoors, either water white UV transmitting or regular glass. It is unsafe to operate a xenon arc lamp without a shield in place. They can produce substantial UV and also on ocassion they pop spitting white hot quartz pieces. (they used to call these bulbs burners, when they first replaced carbon arc illuminators)

It was manufactured by Chiu Technical on Long Island near Bulbtronics. They make the Lumina fiber optic source and the same source is sold in anybody's livery.
