Hello,

i‘m planning to start with facetting gemstones. I‘ve found the Graves Mark IV and the Graves Mark 5XL in the pricerange I prefer.

What do you think about it? I know, a Facetron or something like that would be better, but is the Graves even a good machine to facet excellent stones?

One question left: is there a reason why the machine is about 200 bucks cheaper at amlab than at the official Graves store?

Best regards from Germany

The machine itself has a solid reputation. However, do a quick search about the graves company on this forum and on the web in general before you consider a purchase from them. Even if you are not buying it directly from them consider how easy current and future acess to parts and servicing will be.

Also check out Amlap thoroughly. In my experience, they are less reliable than Graves.

FabiK, another machine in your price range is the Raytech-Shaw built by Scott Manufacturing. I recently got a chance to handle one and it is well made. They apparently ship worldwide.
