Hello to all the members of the forum! Does anyone have any experience in using Diamond Colorimeters? How do you think they accurate? What manufacturer did you use? I will be happy to receive any information or experience from you. Thanks in advance.

Kyrylo Gubariev.

Hi.
I used to own one.
Mine was not completely reliable.
Sometimes spot on, other times not so much.
I sold it a few years back.

Here's a word of advice, Diamond Colorimeters are not accurate or reliable! best is you buy 5 Stone Diamond Master Color Set! if you don't want to invest that much just buy 5 or 10 stone CZ Master Color Set. please refer to this topic as we have discussed before: http://www.gemologyonline.com/Forum/php ... er#p174673

It is very odd to me. It seems like a task ideally suited to hardware, more so than the human eye.

I agree Stephen.
I think the ones commercially available to us plebs are not the caliper used by the GIA and the Russian Gem Lab in Moscow.

A correctly operating Gran Colorimeter can be very accurate. There are a lot of dead and dud ones out there. Many that light up but don't pass diagnostics. If it reads out "Not enough Light" run in the other direction. They are all getting "long in tooth".

The Austron is not bad.

Neither are made anymore.

The Colibri by Sarine does not seem to have been loved by people who bought it for $15K.

Sarine have more recently bought the Yehuda I am told. Fearfully expensive.

Thanks everyone for your answers. As the question is still open, maybe someone can recommend a good manufacturer of CZ?

I have this set and diamond masters.
There is no difference between them.

I also have a set of the GEMORO 10 stone masters. They were great in working with me to get it as perfect as possible. All of the trained color graders I tested with it can reliably put all 10 stones in order. I like the feature of having the color grade imprinted on each stone. Like I said earlier, the biggest challenge is translating to grey/brown tint to cape series tints. However, I find that the 1ct size and good cutting, is an advantage when comparing to smaller mined diamond sets. This helps mitigate the tint issues. I am consistently within 1 grade, and most often spot on. Like all tools it takes practice. Spend time learning your individual set and you should get good results.
