Hi
I just bought a polariscope
It is very solid and well built but the top rotating polarising filter is very difficult to turn and stiff. If I push the rotating filter up from underneath, then it moves up and creates a bit of a gap where I can see some grease/lubricant. My guess is the grease is too thick.
What can I do to make it move more easily? I was thinking that maybe I could put spray some wd-40 into a bowl, and then use a toothpick to carefully apply that wd-40 into the little gap when I push the filter upwards. Would this be safe to do or could the filters/paint/equipment get damaged by the wd-40?
Or would it just loosen up by itself after many uses?
What should I do?
Thanks a lot

Can you remove the filter? if so I would carefully clean off the dampening grease with a q tip and acetone. If not then I would work the filter around a lot to try to loosen it up.

I can't remove the filter. Well I probably could because if it was put on it can be taken off, but I don't want to risk it since I don't know what I'm doing. I think I could remove some of the grease with a toothpick and then hopefully it should loosen up with time I guess. Maybe it was made like this on purpose?
