I have a Wild M420 Apozoom with an elderly Olympus DSLR and adaptor, and am thinking about an upgrade to a new mirrorless camera. If money were no object, what camera/adaptor combo would you recommend? Is it possible to get an adaptor that does not have any glass in the light path?

You can do direct projection onto APS-C pretty easily. The adapter can be bought for 200 bucks, or you can make it yourself. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=24761 For full frame you can do the above, but add a high-quality teleconverter to upsize the image to fit (a 1.6x I think?). I have not tried this myself, just read about it. What adapter are you using now?
Direct projection works well on this system. The projected image is actually bigger than what you see in the eyepieces, so the image on aps-c is a little wider than the eyepiece view. M400 series scopes were overengineered in the best way.
