Anyone have any experience with or have heard anything about Goyalabs Gospectro spectrophotometer? I recently read about it but can’t seem to find a ton about the functionality and use of it. It seems interesting, and they really aren’t too terribly expensive. They claim to be functional for gemology. Fact or fiction? Self isolation has me reading most corners of the internet but I’m not succeeding with this one lol

Amazing value if it works. One big issue is that the small unit they demonstrate for gemstones only goes th 750 nm. We need 900+ nm to prove presence of copper.

Their IndiGo system goes up to 900nm, really both systems are very reasonable options for a small scale setup. I just would hate to jump the gun on something. It certainly looks promising.

Hello I purchased a gospectro from France but it was lost in the mail but Thomas from Goyalab quickly fixed the problem and sent another spectrometer, great service.
I have been using it quite a bit and it has become very useful for me. You have to take spectrums of known gems and build up a library for comparison since Goyalab is still working on reference spectra. I was able to determine synthetic ruby from narural ruby (I am new to this forum and don't know how to post pictures yet but I have some saved spectra that shows the dirrerence.

Attachments:
File comment: known synthetic had curved growth lines vs a real ugly ruby has to be real. bought as natural and checked against other knowns.

Hi,

I have been using it intensively since 7 or 8 years in appraisal of large rough diamonds, and am very satisfied.
I have made a kind of "integration sphere" and use a specific light source.
Overall, I would say, a very cheap tool, and effective!
