I'm recutting a red Burmese spinel, and noticed odd geometric patterns in the stone after making the initial cuts with a 600 sintered lap. The effect disappeared after pre-polish and polish. I'm guessing it was a twinned crystal, with slight differences in reflectivity due to the two different growth directions. What do you think?
