Hello ladies and gents,

I have a Kassoy GMK498 spectroscope that I would like to build a stand for, see:

http://www.kassoy.com/Spectroscopes/Kas ... -Scale.asp

ideally, I would like it to be the type with adjusting features like the ones that you see on professional bases. Has anybody here ever designed and build one like that by chance?

Thanks

Just take a glob of BLU-TACK or Stik-Tak and you can make one with unlimited adjustments. :D

Making an adjustable stage is fairly straight forward (I made my own because I thought the cost of an OPL one pretty steep). I started with a piece of 3 inch diameter steel rod, turned the top 1/2 inch down to 2 1/2 inch, made a brass top plate 3 inches in diameter, screwed to the top of the steel block. I then made two washers, 3 inches O/D by 2 1/2 inches I/D by 1/4 inch thick. Onto these I silver soldered arms, 3 inches by 3/4 inch by 1/2 inch, both at an angle of 45 degrees. I then drilled and tapped holes in the arms to allow spring clips to be screwed on to hold my spectroscope one side and a LED torch the other. Being able to screw spring clips on is useful because it enables you to change the clip to suit different instruments or torches if needed. The arms can be individually adjusted to the best angle and the job is completed by gluing a piece of black foam rubber to the top to protect stones.
I am toying with the idea of making another where the angle of the arms can be adjusted from the 45 degrees set, but not yet.
