I bought this sphere about 10 years ago on eBay as "Lead Crystal Ball". my brother thinks its Alexite because it changes colors like this.
(Blue under white light, and purple in the sun and yellow light)
what do you think?

really?... but how could this be while searching the web I can't find anything like this?
All Alexite I Found are small gems and there is only one company in Japan who makes them.
(If its Alexite, its the "Lavender" type)
Dor says there is no raw material for sale so it might be a prototype...?

NO. not a prototype. i am thinking more like a marketing change.
like, why waste so much material on a ball when you can sell the same glass for a few$/per carat...?

It is man made glass containing trace elements which make it change color.
"Alexite" may be proprietary but glass making certainly isn't.
It's just glass. You can make it with any dopant in any size and shape you want.
Perhaps it doesn't have the Alexite brand, but same stuff, IMO.

they Are sold as gems as well apparently..
