I got this email this morning.
Quote:
Hi, I recently purchased a pair of earrings that contain 2 large chalcedony stones. When I purchased them the stones were clear of any blemishes but about 2 weeks later I noticed what looked like black mold or growth inside one of the stone. About a week later more spots appeared on the same stone and a small spot of the same thing appeared on the 2nd stone. I'm curious if anyone has ever seen anything like this? Whatever it is is definitely growing inside the stone somehow and I can see it spreading. I contacted the person who sold the earrings and she said she has had this problem before but didn't know why. She refunded my money and everything is fine but I'm still so curious about what it is.
Thanks for your time,

What could be going on?

It is bezel set which would hide any seam. Are you sure this is not an assembled stone? The black seems to be growing on a plane.

Smartie, smartie....good observation.
If we look at the area around the bezel, there seems to be growth there as well.
