Post subject:  About "Strawberry Quartz"

A jewelry seller told me that only the "Strawberry quartz" from Madagascar can be considered as "Strawberry Quartz" and the "Strawberry quartz" from any other countries are fake "Strawberry quartz" . But when I searched this "Strawberry quartz" on Google, a lot of sites said that "Strawberry quartz" can also be found in Russia( and when I said that to him, he started to say some very mean things about my IQ, my brain :( ). So is it true that the "Strawberry quartzes" from Russia are fake Strawberry quartz? Also, is this "Strawberry Quartz a recognized gemstone?

Strawberry quartz is a pretty general trade name for quartz included with flakes of red hematite. It's also used (fraudulently) to described a swirled red/colorless glass. It isn't region-locked or extremely specific. Some locales might produce better or worse material but it's really not a highly technical term. That doesn't stop some people from talking about how theirs is the 'only real' or 'the very best', and sometimes they get taken seriously.

Thank you very much! That seller also said that "Strawberry Quartz" can only be found in volcanoes and Russia does not have volcanoes so Russia doesn't have "real" strawberry Quartz . So can quartz with flakes of red hematite be found on places that don't have volcanoes?

It doesn't form in volcanoes (not directly anyway). I would think it would tend to grow in hydrothermal environments. If I were you I wouldn't take anything this seller says at all seriously.

Oh by the way, Russia has tons of volcanoes. The seller is full of it. You need a new seller who will tell you the truth.

Thanks! I don't usually take this kind of things so seriously, but the thing is, this seller actually posted a thread on a forum and wrote about 7 huge paragraphs and telling other people that I am a liar, I am just another competitor trying to discredit him, don't believe anything I say etc. :(

Don't loose any sleep over it.
