Regarding the http://www.badgemology.com / and WGM got this today!!
what the ...??

Quote:
To Richard W. Hughes and your "Group": You can continue to attack me personally until the cows come
home, but it was the National Gem Testing Center of China who actually went to Tibet and proved serious
problems with your expedition reports. You cannot discredit that report by attacking me for publishing the
report. If you ever want to enter into a meaningful and professional dialogue regarding these issues and
perhaps find some amicable solutions, contact me....you have my email. Otherwise all this is doing is making
more and more consumers feel that this is a very nasty and venomous industry, and they are leaving in
droves due to your attacks.

Think about that.....

There are several issues here and several personalities involved. I find the discussions very provacative and entertaining. I enjoy the read(s).

I personally think the issues with the glass-filled green sapphire most intriguing and disturbing. That certainly seems to be more than an innocent confusion.

The ongoing discussion of fluorescence being a diagnostic indicator of synthetic or treated ruby seems to currently have everyone in agreement, including Robert James. Fluorescence is really not indicative of anything but low iron content in natural or synthetic ruby. I think the topic persists because Robert James won't just say, "Yep, In the light of new information, I need to do a rewrite and clarify a point or two." :|

Several excursions have been suggested. Conny Forsberg has been invited to Texas to compare and contrast experiences with fluorescence, Robert James has been invited to Tibet and China. :D

Andesine......the never ending story, reads like the Bourne Identity.

The guy preys on the ignorant, scares 'm to death with bogus info and then sells 'm a course for 1200 bucks which, if it resembles his usual dribble in any way, would be a half-baked course.

And all this under the 'consumer protector' motto...

Disgusting. :smt078

I'd like to invite any disbelievers to Corundum Knob in NC with a UV light...if the rubies are still in the host rock, would that be convincing enough?

Well, if you're going to NC, you could fly into Atlanta. Let's do dinner. :D

I've actually thought about suggesting a GO get-together here at our house. We have 5 acres of wooded property, a creek, a river and plenty of space for a party. Only problem is Georgia is not very central for most members. :(

I'd love to have everyone here. :)

From what I have seen I think the title of this thread would be more accurate if it read:

Robet James Vs The Gem Industry

He was the one who wrote the 'Newsletter' about the green sapphire. He has now changed his story so many times he has made himself a laughing stock. After this it’s hard to imagine *anyone* taking him seriously any more!

You know what's even more disturbing? The people who defend him probably really do care about ethics, yet they seem to be blinded to the fact that he's playing them for fools. Some of the stuff he's been saying has me wondering how stupid he truly thinks his people must be. And then you go and read the likes of his supporter "LiliMom" on Gembusters...

I've just discovered the http://www.badgemology.com site.
The green sapphire story is impressive!
It looks like some "specialists" "infused" to gemological community also need an appropriate disclosure!...
Great initiative, congratulations! Keep 'm coming!

i think most of Robert James foe with Richard Hughes is because of his Review of 2012 Jewelers Guide to Treated & Created Gems by Robert James© World Gem Society and YourGemologist LLC.
