I am in the process of setting up a small tank for a goldfish and eventually some guppies. The lighting system includes a night feature that uses blue LEDs. I have a small collection of New Jersey fluorescent minerals that would look cool. But are they safe to put into a live fish tank?

I agree Barbra. I'm concerned whether the rocks will be chemically inert with a solution containing so many nitrates (nitrites), ammonia and such. I might have to find a Geology Forum. I should probably dig the rocks out of their box so I can ask a better question.

Well, Jersey fluorescents means Franklin, and that means calcite, franklinite, willemite, in all likelihood.
I don't think those are going to kill your fish any time soon; the calcite could conceivably harden the water to a small degree, but that's what water changes are for, don't see a problem.
This is an interesting topic as I too had the idea of marketing all my stock of hopeless stones. Heavily fractured Scapolite is very pretty underwater. I also have pounds of granular material like that.
