Hi all!

if a law about gemological materials would be issued in your country, which kind of master set would you have been established as an instrument for diamond color grading?

thx for the collaboration!!

ciao

Wouldn't it be a function of what your business was doing?
If your business was a gemological lab, you'd need diamond masters and several other instruments to test for treatment and synthesis.
If you are buying mounted goods from designers or privates, I think a CZ set would suffice.

As a small-time gemologist, I would have to say a real-diamond master-set is out of my reach :( . If a law was to be passed saying all diamond graders must use real diamonds, I suppose some of us would have to confine ourselves to colored stones.

by the time you pay VAT and Italian import duties these are going to be expensive. At least it looks like you have last last found a source where you can buy them. I do think that if Diamonds are insisted upon it will make starting a new business in Italy as an appraiser beyond the purse of many and many small established businesses might not be able to afford it either.

I do think that Italy is doing something admirable though, just by trying to establish some kind of control on the industry.

Guess I stick to verifying the correctness of different labs reports when necessary. Now I remember why I love CS... :D

But on topic again mate. If I was to choose and needed a set for grading on a daily basis, I would go for the diamond set.

yup, as said many times tht would be my first choice too.............unfortunately no chance you can find one in recent times, even if you're ready to pay for the huge cost.......................we definitely need to find an alternative..............
BTW, another thing that i forgot to mention, the original question is referred to the minumum required standard.......... and that doesn't mean if you hve a diamond master you cannot use it anyore IF the CZ series would be choose...............

It was suggested to me years ago that instead of having to purchase a diamond master "set", one could pursue obtaining these diamonds one at a time. Say, first a G ... knowing anything above is colorless; then a K ... knowing between the two is near-colorless; and so on, until one has a complete set. It would take some time and still be expensive, but I would think is one way to go about it. The only question becomes what lab to have verify the color grade. Or, perhaps have two labs grade the diamonds to see if there is agreement.
