Hello Gemology world,
I'm searching for ideas on how to create an engaging gem stone display. I've seen what is out there such as plastic gem jars or acrylic boxes to purchase and I'm not impressed. Does anyone have any ideas for me?

Best,
GemManJake

Hi, are you only going to display gems or jewellery to? Is this in a shop display cabinet or window, or is this for a trade show?

Thanks

Well my friend, 3 things you are going to have to do;
1 spend
2 spend
3 spend.
Buy rough, as well as cut stones.
Buy an old facetting plant. People are fascinated to see how rough is turned into gems.
Go to gem hunting areas, and get someone to photograph you "digging", finding gems.
Have photos "blown up" and printed on corflute, or something similar, to emphasise your display.
Get really good lighting.
Get the picture?
I set up at sunday markets, using only a very simple display with my Facetron, a bunch of cut stones, redopped onto sticks, some nice jewellery pieces, and my hook is baited.
Men generally try to avoid going near jewellery displays, and worry if their partners do.
The old facetron is like a vintage car though, men just get hooked on the engineering, and then if I pop some bling off a stick, clean it off, bingo, sales time!
Of course, you need lots of dops, with everything from sapphires, zircons, etc, all the way down to some spectacular, big C.Zs.
If you spend the time to properly qualify your customer, you can show them something that fits their budget. That's my 50cents worth.
Good luck with it all.
Barry.

Let me know when you decide to retire from shows, that Facetron, no matter how old, sounds fascinating.
