Hi Folks,

This is a "Red Arrow" brand high pressure water gun. It is commonly used by mineral collectors to clean specimens of clay and other dirt. It is also very useful in blasting residual polishing agent from porosities in polished cabochons and display stones.

I'm having some trouble getting mine apart to replace the broken spring and am wondering if anyone on the list may have experience with this.

In the picture, the water reservoir has been removed and the feed tube detached. The nozzle "A" comes off easily, no problem.

I would think the next step would be to loosen the screw at "B" on the top of the white plastic collar and then slide the collar off to the left along the rail (indistinctly visible just above "C") to access the spring which I assume is located in the metal cylinder above "C".

But I can't for the life of me get the white plastic collar off. Even inserting a broad blade screwdriver to the right of the collar and prying with some force doesn't do it. I don't want to force it too much for fear of breaking it.

The manufacturer's exploded diagram isn't a whole lot of help, and I'm hoping someone on the list may have done a spring replacement and can advise me whether I'm approaching it the right way and whether the spring is actually located where I think it must be, namely in the metal cylinder just to the right of the plastic collar.

Cheers all,
and thanks
