Heard of Hip-Hop tooth "grills?" Well, the idea of using gems as dental decoration certainly isn't new. It's at least 2,500 years old according to this National Geographic article.

Ouch!

If you hate having your teeth drilled maybe this isn't for you. But as the article suggests, it's likely the early Mesoamericans had powerful drugs that made the process bearable, if not painless. I've long suspected some of the psychedelic murals I've seen in that part of the world didn't come out of thin air!
