Yes....one must trust the seller in the US.

Of course, any established jewelry retailer's most precious commodity is their reputation....and their word.

The most exhaustive work on international hallmark protocol is:

I've just been listening to a news item here in Aussi, about a "fake gold" scam that has just been busted on the Gold Coast(no pun intended)
It seems that backpackers were recruited to take gold items to gold buyers, all over Brisbane, Gold coast, Sunshine Coast, claiming it was personal property, and they were short of money.
Of course, greed can be counted on, when people sense a "desperate seller?".
The police busted a house somewhere on the Gold coast, finding stamping tools, heaps of cash and weapons, ( read, handguns) and large amounts of fake jewellery.
Organised Asian gangs were mentioned as being involved.

When you see a stamp on jewelry that says 14K, 18K or anything else for that matter, it MOST LIKELY means that the person that hallmarked that piece had access to a stamp that said EXACTLY that. I hope this helps. Lee

Yes, readily available to anyone from ebay, also ANY custom stamp (including official and copyrighted, of course) that already exist, plus many that do not yet, can be ordered easily in Bangkok.
Never take a stamp too seriously. Best regards, Lee
