Look forward to being part and contributing to this forum.

Fossicker, sapphire miner, collector etc with over 5000 rough, cut stones & 50kgs opal rough in my collection.

In Australia we are quite fortunate with amount of resources to fossick or setup small scale mining claims for gemstones, opal, gold, even diamonds. I have travelled our whole country and found that some places are so remote and are restricted by extreme heat, no water, wet season (extreme floods and complete towns cut off for days/weeks/months), crocodiles, it is just not feasible.

Here are some rough Zircons found in Harts Range, Northern Territory and Diamonds from Western Australia Kimberleys region that were discovered in the 1970’s. At the time they were only looking for clear diamonds and coloured diamonds were most often crushed and made into industrial tooling.

Fortunately, some diamonds and offcuts were sold/kept back then and in private collections and handed down generations. I am fortunate to receive these and have kept them for over 20 years and wish to eventually learn to cut/polish them. (Will of course go to a diamond school and purchase proper equipment)

I am happy to discuss more of this if people want to hear more in the future and thought I would first try to introduce with this post
