Anyway, I hope you enjoy our company and that we get to know a little about your interest in gems in the time to come.

I have not tasted longan for very many years Sadly, I don't think we import it to the UK. Like cashews; we import the roasted nuts here, of course, but we never get to see and taste the cashew fruit.
How near to the Thai Elephant Conservation Area near Wiang Tan is Little Elephant's farm?

A long time ago, I spent some time Terengganu state, just to the south of Thai/Malaysia border. We used to eat the bright yellow cashew fruit - but not the nuts, which are poisonous until roasted. The cashew fruit has an unusual taste, both sweet and slightly bitter at the same time. If you are thirsty, it helps to eat a cashew fruit i used to like it and would like to eat it again. Some people do not like it though. As you will know, the nut actually grows outside of the fruit, looking like a bean just below the fruit as it hangs on the bush?

The favourite fruit by far is the banana. Almose every home will eat some of these every week. Those reaching the UK market almost all come from Central America (Costa Rica in particular) and various islands in the West Indies. Banana growing is the main source of income in most of these places. Elsewhere in the European Union (EU), bananas are imported from African states almost exclusively. These trade patterns were largely set in the old days of the European colonial empires and have continued since through habitual association and the importance to the producer countries of these sales of bananas to Europe.
Perhaps more than many other products, the importation of agricultural produce into the EU is very heavily regulated. So is importation into Canada and the USA, I believe. As you will know, most export/import of agricultural produce is handled by specialist agents who are completely familiar with what is required to comply with the various regulations. If I were a grower and wanted to sell into the EU or N.America markets, I would have a serious talk with one or two of these guys first before making any decisions as all.
By the way, no, I am a not a gem expert but try to learn a little more every day I have retired from business and though I have no plans to sit any examination, I like to consider myself as a serious student of gemology. One can learn a great deal from the many in this forum who know a lot more than one does oneself.
So what is your interest in gems (other than the location of your farm )? Do you collect, trade, study or simply enjoy the products of one of your country's important industries?

Kerensky, you need to move to the US now. Here in Georgia, we have *2* competing Korean supermarket chains. I saw Longans on sale for $1.99 (a pound and change) a pound about 3 weeks back.
My favorite is cherimoya and monstera with longan and lychees following close.

You are probably right George.... In Britain, we would not know a Korean supermarket (or a longan) if one crept up behind us and bit us on the bum!
Yes, the last 60 years of world history have resulted in the US developing far greater agricultural produce trading ties with South-East Asia than there are with the EU. Over here, - and with the exception of tinned produce - the main users of freshh ingredients from SE Asia are the Chinese and, more recently, Thai restaurants which one findds in every town. Little of this produce reaches our supermarkets. Pak Choi and lychees are the main exceptions I can think of. Fresh lychees were first avaiable in some UK food shops as long ago at the 1950's but Pak Choi has only become widely available within the last 10 years I think.
But the trade regulations in both our countries are still fierce. Were I to send you fine fresh fruit as a present and you were to do the same for me, we would both be committing crimes for which, in theory, we could be locked up.
