I admit I've been lurking for a while and only posting a little. I'm somewhat shy and not very used to participating in a forum, but hopefully that'll change.

My name is Line and I'm a visual artist and self-taught jewellery maker. Although I only got serious about jewellery-making about a year ago, my fascination with minerals and rocks – and gems and jewellery for that matter – have been lifelong. Having a silversmith and rock collector for a mother probably have something to do with that. When returning from summer holidays in my childhood we often had so many rocks in the trunk of the car that it could barely move.

Whenever I venture in to a new artistic field I quickly feel the need to learn about the scientific underpinnings of that art. What can I say - I'm a nerd! So, after being confused by all the contradictory and sometimes plain wrong information that seems to float around in the beading communities and among retailers of gemstone beads, I kept searching and finally lucked upon this forum - and other gemology sites also. Big sigh of relief. Now I feel a little intimidated by the high level of knowledge in this space, and I hope there is room for me here even if I'm more of an artist than a scientist – albeit a very nerdy artist.

I better stop before I write a novel in here. So far I've learned a lot reading old threads, and I plan to post some more pretty soon, most likely stupid questions to begin with.

Welcome from a fellow Dane :D

I don't post that often. I do not seem to have that much to write about. But the forum is my steady evening reading and I can't express how much I enjoy looking and hearing about all the beautiful gems.

Hello Karin and thanks!

I also read a lot more than I post. I feel very fortunate to have found this forum, and I'm learning something new every time I visit.
