Hi Everyone,

My name is Ross Sedawie and I have been looking at this forum for the last few months trying to absorb the mass of knowledge on here. I am half way through my diploma of Gemology at AIGS Thailand (Just passed my Gem Identification exam today) and this forum has been a great source of info.

Back home in Australia, my family have been mining, cutting and selling opals for almost 30 years. My brother is miner, my Dad is the President of the opal association and now I am becoming a gemologist. We run a fantastic gem and opal website out of Australia that we all take part in, including my Uncle. So it really is a family affair.

I hope I can contribute here in the future. You guys all seem to be witty and full of humour.

:D

Hi Ross,
I am new here too and you are right, there is a lot to absorb.
Thought I would chime in as my company's office was just down the street from AIGS BKK.
We were at 807 Silom right across from Silom Village. Is AIGS still on Silom or did they move?
Who is their primary instructor now? Dick Hughes was there when our office was highly active
in the 90s. Lots of memories from Thailand, Burma and Cambodia. Still active in BKK but
not an office per se, although the US Treaty Company shell is still there and we still pay our
accountant for filing annual audit fees. :? Most of our activity is out of Sri Lanka and Brazil
right now.

Opals are great. Are they any new visual classification charts put out by the opal association
that you could share with us? I have yet to see a really good one.

Cheers,
Bill
