Hi guys - realized I had not introduced myself. I am a mathematician by trade and rock hound by hobby. My parents were rock hounds and introduced me to the hobby when was was very young. I remember vacations rock hounding as some of my earliest memories. And I have passed the hobby on to my sons, who now are setting stones and selling them on etsy. I have been collecting for over 50 years now, but every rock show I go to I see something new. I sympathize with the Welo opal addicts - I saw some at a show in the Fall of 2008, right after the crash. There were only 2 or three other people at the show, so I got to high grade several buckets of the stuff. I am hooked. I really like purple gems (especially topaz, beryl, tanzanite, tourmaline....well you get the idea...), cubic crystals (flourite, galena, magnetite, spinel...) and mostly finding gems and getting them into jewelery for my wife.
