Dear friends,
as you all know last month a great gemmological event took place in Florence
Hosted by The University of Florence and the Museum of Natural History of Florence:
CIGES 2012 the 3rd Italian congress of Scientific Gemmology

The Congress offered general presentations of 45 minutes with interventions, by invitation, of 20-30 minutes followed by
a poster session concerning congress themes.
National and international experts took an in-depth look at theme areas like historical, geologic-giacimentologic, commercial and gemstone jewellery.
Notable guest speakers drawn from academic, gemmological, commercial and political fields held a round table discussion.
Our friend Alberto Scarani spoke after John Koivula about corundum threatments;

During CIGES days, there was also the opportunity to visit the exhibition called “Cristalli” at the Section of Zoology 'La Specola' of Museum of Natural History and the Opificio delle Pietre Dure museum of Florence.

The exhibition called “Cristalli” is one of the most important and famous collection of crystals.

It displays more than 500 pieces and counts on an extraordinary variety and aesthetic richness of items arriving from all over the world.
